The Pookkottur War Memorial Gate located at Aravankara, Pokottur, Malappuram Kerala, honours those who died in the battle of Pookkottur. The Battle of Pookkottur was fought in 1921 in Malabar province of Northern Kerala by the Mappilas of Malabar against the British army during anti-colonial struggles.
Pookkottur is a village in the Eranad taluk of Malappuram, Kerala. It is located on National Highway 213 with a state road connecting it to Manjeri. It was the epicentre of the Malabar Rebellion of 1921, which shook the British government in Madras Province’s erstwhile Malabar District.
